These falls are known to waterfall experts and kayakers who kayak the Clear Fork of the Cowlitz River down to its confluence with the Ohanapecosh. Lava Creek Falls is a large waterfall which pours over the side of Ayance Canyon along the Clear Fork of the Cowlitz River between Mount Rainier National Park and White Pass. The falls drop a total of 340 feet in a linear run of about 900 feet.
From Packwood head east on US 12 and at its junction with Highway 123 continue about 5 miles on US 12 to a pullout on the right-hand side of the road (unsigned) where the waterfall can be seen. Getting to the base of the waterfall involves crossing the Clear Fork of the Cowlitz River and is not recommended.
